Clearances have changed
The mandrel was easy enough (you have to tap the mandrel for the bolts). The problem came when I put the new mandrel shaft assembly in, reassembled the deck, and tried using it. Within 15 minutes it started to make a noise. I turned the mower deck off and parked it. I took the deck back off and noticed that the pulley splines had stripped and no longer would turn the shaft/blade. When I took it fully apart, I noticed that there was about an 1/8 of an inch play between the pulley and the shaft when the bolt was fully tightened. I had to buy another pulley and when that came, I put a washer in there to take up the slack. It works fine now. My guess is that the ability to wobble put stress on the pulley splines that was not accounted for when figuring out what type of metal to use. I double checked the diagram and there was not supposed to be a washer that somehow I missed. All of the items put together were brand new. Sears, if you read this, double check the clearances!
