Do I need to install a bypass plug when I remove the water filter in my GE Profile fridge?

Yes. You will need to install a bypass plug when you use the ice maker and water system in your GE Profile refrigerator.

  • Filter MWF uses bypass plug WR17X22070.
  • Filter XWF uses bypass plug WR17X33825.
  • Filter RPWFE uses bypass plug WR17X23645.

You’ll find filter RPWFE in the upper left corner of the refrigerator compartment or inside the left refrigerator door. Open the filter housing cover and extend the filter out of the housing then pull the filter out of the filter head. Align the new filter according to its markings and push the filter into the filter head. Swing the filter into its housing and close the filter housing cover. Run about 2 gallons of water through the refrigerator water dispenser to purge air and residue from the filter and refrigerator water lines. Filter RPWFE replaces previous filter version RPWF.
  • GE refrigerator water filter XWF fits GE Profile refrigerator models PSE25KBLKHTS, PSE25KSHKHSS, PSS28KSHKCSS and PZS22MSKKHSS. Filter XWF replaces equivalent filter model XWFE.
