Troubleshooting your Kenmore central vacuum when it won't power up

Make sure the central vacuum power switch is turned on. If the switch is on, make sure the power cord is fully plugged into a working electrical outlet. Check the electrical outlet for power by plugging a different item in the outlet. If the outlet is dead, reset the house circuit breaker for the outlet. If the outlet is still dead after resetting the house circuit breaker, have an electrician repair the outlet.

If the electrical outlet is okay, unplug the central vacuum and check the power cord wiring connection on the power switch. Reconnect any loose power cord wires.

If the power cord wiring connections are okay, check continuity through the power switch using a multimeter. Replace the power switch if your meter measures no continuity through the switch with the switch turned on.

If the power switch is okay, you may need to replace the vacuum motor.
