This was the second time in the life of my Kenmore refrigerator that one of the freezer slides broken, and for the same reason. Part of the ball bearing train had shredded, jamming up the glide track and causing the opening and closing of the freezer drawer to shed powdered metal all over the freezer. Again, this is the SECOND time the freezer drawer slide has broken for that reason. It seems maybe the slides should be replaced for free given their poor construction.
I am cautiously optimistic about this new slide because it is made a little bit differently than the previous two (stock, replacement 1; new one has a spring closure mechanism so maybe the jamming/shredding/shedding problem has been fixed in the redesign). However, the purchase price of the slides was a confusingly high proportion of the purchase price of the original refrigerator. The customer service representative told me the order included two slides. Only one arrived. I will be contacting them for clarification after the weekend.
