WC Wood Upright Freezer V25NAD FAQs

For the Wc Wood upright freezer model V25NAD, defrosting depends on whether it’s a No-Frost or manual-defrost version. No-Frost models don’t need manual defrosting; manual-defrost models should be defrosted when frost reaches about 1/4 inch (6 mm). See the owner's manual for your exact configuration and control locations.

Before you start (food and safety)

  • Move frozen food to a cooler or another freezer.
  • Turn the temperature control to OFF and unplug the freezer.
  • Never use an ice pick, knife, or any sharp tool to remove ice; cabinet damage can occur.
  • Keep towels handy for meltwater.
  • If your model has a defrost drain tube/plug, set up a shallow pan or a nearby floor drain.
  1. Power off: Set control to OFF and unplug.
  2. Remove food: Wrap items in newspaper and cover with a blanket (or use a cooler).
  3. Speed melting (optional): Place pans of hot (not boiling) water inside with the door open.
  4. Airflow help (optional): Aim a fan into the freezer opening to circulate air (do not put the fan inside).
  5. Remove loosened frost: Lift off softened frost by hand as it releases.
  6. Dry and clean: Wipe water from walls and bottom; wash interior, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
  7. Restart: Plug in and reset temperature; allow 6 to 8 hours to reach temperature before fully restocking.

If your V25NAD has a defrost drain (some models)

What you do What it accomplishes
Pull out the defrost drain tube (behind the toe grille on some models) Routes meltwater to a pan or drain
Remove the drain plug at the bottom front Lets defrost water flow out
Empty the pan as needed Prevents overflow

Why it matters

Defrosting at about 1/4 inch of frost restores airflow and cooling efficiency, helps the compressor run normally, and reduces temperature swings that can affect food quality.

For the Wc Wood upright freezer model V25NAD, the model and serial number are printed on the serial plate inside the cabinet. On this model, the plate is located on the left-hand upper corner of the food liner (the inside wall). See the V25NAD owner's manual for the exact location description.

Where to look first (fastest checks)

  • Open the freezer door and look at the upper left inside wall/liner.
  • Check near the top edge where the liner meets the cabinet.
  • Look for a serial plate or rating label with model and serial fields.
  • Use a flashlight; the label can be easier to read at an angle.

Other common label locations on upright freezers

If the inside upper-left liner area is missing the label (worn, painted over, or removed), many upright freezers also place identification labels in one of these spots:

  • Along the door frame (hinge side)
  • On the rear exterior panel
  • Behind the base grille area

What you need from the label

Label item What it’s used for Example format
Model number Matching parts and diagrams V25NAD
Serial number Identifying production run details Letters and numbers

Why it matters

We use the model number to match the correct parts list and any model-specific information (like temperature control layout, alarms, and features). Using the serial number along with the model helps avoid ordering a similar-looking part that does not fit.

If your Wc WOOD upright freezer model V25NAD is running but not freezing, the most common causes are a warm temperature control setting, poor airflow from overpacking or blocked vents, a door that is not sealing, or the freezer not having enough time to pull down to temperature after startup or heavy loading. See the temperature control and operating guidance in the owner's manual.

Quick checks that fix most “not freezing” complaints

  • Confirm the temperature control is set colder (higher number equals colder on many models).
  • Give the freezer time: after first start, cooling can take 6 to 8 hours or longer, depending on room temperature and door openings.
  • Avoid overpacking; leave space for air to circulate around shelves and baskets.
  • Make sure the door closes fully and the gasket is clean and making full contact.
  • Check the room temperature; the freezer runs most efficiently when the area is 40°F to 90°F.
  • If you recently added a lot of unfrozen food, use Fast Freeze (if your unit has it) for 24 to 48 hours, then return to normal.

What to expect (normal vs. problem)

Situation What it usually means What to do
Outside cabinet feels warm Normal heat transfer during operation No repair needed
Compressor runs constantly after startup Normal until cabinet cools Wait 6 to 8+ hours
Alarm sounds (some models) Freezer temp rose above about 10°F, or large warm load added Check setting, reduce door openings, allow recovery time
Power light is on (some models) but food is soft Light only indicates power, not temperature Verify control setting and actual freezing performance

Why it matters

A freezer that is set too warm, installed in a hot area, or loaded before it is fully cold can look like a failure even when the sealed system is working normally. Correct settings and airflow let the evaporator remove heat efficiently and protect food quality.

If it still will not freeze after these steps

If the freezer has had 24 hours to stabilize at a colder setting, is in a 40°F to 90°F space, and the door seals well but temperatures still will not drop, the issue is typically in the cooling system or an electrical component (for example, control, wiring, or a failed component). Use the diagnostic and safety guidance in the owner's manual and contact Sears PartsDirect support if you need help identifying the correct repair path.
