Top-selling replacement parts for Snapper rear-tine tillers

  • Recoil starter. The recoil starter is a starter system mounted on top of the engine that consists of a rope and spring-loaded pulley system. The person operating the tiller pulls the starter rope, which rotates the spring-loaded pulley and spins the crankshaft to start the engine.
  • Side shields. Side shields are metal plates attached to the sides of the tine shield that guide the tilled soil into even rows.
  • Spark plug. The spark plug ignites the air and fuel mixture in the engine of a gas-powered tiller.
  • Tines. The tiller tines are rotating metal cultivating blades that dig into the earth and turn over the dirt to prepare for planting or to incorporate soil amendments.

How to replace the drive belt on a Snapper rear-tine tiller

  • Pull the spark plug wire straight up and off the plug.
  • Wear work gloves to protect your hands.
  • Remove the mounting screws that secure the drive belt cover to the tiller and pull the drive belt cover off.
  • Remove the bolts from the belt keeper behind the engine pulley and pull the belt keeper off.
  • Remove the bolt from the idler pulley and pull the idler pulley off.
  • Pull the drive belt off of the engine and transmission pulleys.
  • Position the new drive belt on the engine pulley and transmission pulley.
  • Reinstall the idler pulley with the belt routed over the idler pulley and through the belt guide. Reinstall the belt keeper behind the engine pulley. Make sure that the belt is properly routed through the belt keeper.
  • Position the drive belt cover on the side of the tiller and secure with the mounting screws.
  • Reconnect the spark plug wire to the engine and check for proper tiller operation.
