Replacing the spark plug in your Wards lawn edger's engine

• When the engine is cool, disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
• Use a spark plug wrench to loosen and remove the spark plug.
• Use a spark plug gap tool to set the gap between the center electrode and the ground electrode. The gap specifications for your model are in the owners manual.
• Thread the spark plug into the engine. Then tighten the spark plug with a spark plug wrench.
• Reconnect the spark plug wire and start the edger to make sure it runs.

• Engine air filter. The edger's air filter removes contaminants from air before it reaches the engine, to help reduce engine wear and improve efficiency.
• Blade drive belt. The blade drive belt connects the engine pulley on the crankshaft to the blade pulley on the quill assembly to spin the edger blade.
• Engine flywheel key. The flywheel key is a small metal rectangle that keeps the crankshaft and flywheel aligned when you tighten the flywheel nut. To protect more expensive components from damage, the flywheel key is designed to shear if the edger blade hits an object hard enough to make the flywheel slip out of alignment with the crankshaft.
• Recoil starter assembly. The recoil starter assembly on top of the engine included a starter rope and a spring that retracts the rope.
