Unplug the garbage disposal power cord from the wall outlet to disconnect electrical power.
Reach through the sink opening and clean the underside of the splash baffle and inside the upper lip of the grind chamber with a scouring pad.
Place the stopper in the sink opening and fill the sink halfway with warm water.
Mix ¼ cup of baking soda with the water in the sink.
Plug the garbage disposal back in. Turn on the garbage disposal and remove the sink stopper at the same time to flush the garbage disposal with the water and baking soda solution.

Insert one end of the self-service wrenchette into the center hole at the bottom of the garbage disposal.
Work the wrenchette back and forth until it turns freely for full revolutions in both directions.
