Part arrived as promised, but problem not solved

The part arrived when it was supposed to, and my friend installed it quickly. However I'm not yet sure if it solved my fridge issues. Apparently my fridge was not defrosting when it should, leading to ice build up, blocked airflow between freezer and fridge, and warm fridge. I purchased free standing fridge thermometers to monitor temps, now I'm thinking my fridge has always been at around 40 degrees at it's coldest setting, and freezer 18 degrees...both much warmer than they should be for food safety. Even with the new control box. And as I said I'm not sure if it's automatically defrosting as it should.
