How to fix the ice maker without replacing it.
The water in door valve which services both the ice maker and the water tap on the front of the door was simple to replace. My problem was that I had water at the front of the door but no ice. All of the trouble shiooting documents called for replacing the ice maker not the valve which was crazy, the ice maker worked if water was put in the tray, so clearly no water was getting to it. The valve came with a water tank attached, it was a design change from the separate water tank in my fridge, the new part was a better design and I pitched the old tank as well as the bad valve.

Parts not correct-Designs are changed not to fit
Three times we were sent the wrong part. It seems that LG no longer makes the water valve part to fit older (2009) refrigerators even though their web sites indicate it's the same part. It is evident in the pictures LG changed the fittings. We had the same thing happen with our Kenmore washing machine that was less than five years old. Should Sears offer you their extended warranty beware. If they are unable to repair (get parts) for your appliance you will be given a voucher to purchase a replacement appliance online. Good Luck with that. At one time every appliance and TV in my home came from Sears with their service agreement. No more because of all the problems with replacement parts.
