How to fix surface burners that aren't heating properly on your Kelvinator gas range

If neither the oven burners nor the surface burners heat properly, then check the gas supply going to the range for properly supply pressure. Get help from your local gas supplier if supply pressure is deficient. A failing pressure regulator in the range can also prevent oven and surface burners from getting the right amount of gas. You may need to replace the pressure regulator if the gas supply to the range is good but gas pressure going to the oven and surface burners is weak.

For an individual surface burner not heating properly, check for and clear any clogs from the burner orifice. A failed surface burner control valve can also prevent a surface burner from heating properly. Replace the burner control valve if it won't control gas flow properly.

Common replacement parts for your Kelvinator gas range

• Surface burner spark module. The surface burner spark module is in the ignition circuit for the gas surface burners. When a surface burner control knob is turned to the 'Lite' position, it provides voltage to the spark electrodes on the gas surface burners. If the surface spark module fails to provide the electrodes with voltage, then it should be replaced.
• Surface burner spark igniter switch. The igniter switch is an electrical switch on the stem of the gas surface burner control valve. This switch completes a circuit to the surface burner spark module, causing the burner igniters to spark when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the burner igniter switch if the burners don't spark when you turn the burner control knob to the Lite position or if igniters spark constantly even when the burner knobs are in the Off position.
• Oven burner igniter. Most gas ovens have a glow-bar oven igniter and a safety gas valve. Those components are connected in a series-type electrical circuit. When the glow-bar oven igniter is hot enough to safely ignite the gas, the safety gas valve opens. Replace the oven igniter if doesn't glow, or if it glows but doesn't get hot enough to open the gas valve. Some ovens have a separate igniter for the bake burner and the broiler burner, which operate on the same principle.
