Clean the dirt canister and filters
A full dirt canister and blocked air filters keep air from flowing through the vacuum properly, reducing overall suction. Empty the dirt canister, and clean all air filters by shaking or brushing them to remove loose dirt. Replace bags and filters that are not reusable with quality vacuum parts from Sears PartsDirect. Clean filters improve suction for cleaner floors.
Check the hoses
Inspect all vacuum hoses for clogs that could be reducing airflow. Look for damaged areas in hoses and leaks in the seals where the hoses attach. Clogs and leaks keep air from moving freely through the system, causing poor suction. Clear out clogs, replace damaged hoses and then make sure that each hose is properly attached and sealed to restore full suction to the vacuum.
Inspect the vacuum suction motor
The suction motor moves a fan to create the suction that makes the vacuum work. If the vacuum has an empty dirt canister, clean air filters and clear hoses, the problem is probably in the suction motor.
