This MTD lawn tractor ground drive belt (part number 490-501-M008) transfers power from the engine to the transmission pulley, allowing the tractor to move forward and in reverse. If your lawn tractor won't moving, slips while driving, or makes unusual noises during operation, replacing a damaged or worn belt may fix the problem. This part replaces part number 954-04252.

easy to install following youtube video
I run my poor mower hard keeping 3 acres of yard mowed. I try to keep it maintained well because of that. The drive belt was slipping and then broke. Ordered two of what I needed plus two of the deck belts. They always break when I need them most. Now I don't have to wait to get me back running. Ordering is easy. The schematic gives me part number. Hard to order the wrong one. Once the deck is dropped, I use a mower stand that raises the front wheels up about two feet. That makes it so much easier for me to get to the underbelly of the mower. The only thing that stumped me a bit was getting the belt around the rear pulley under the battery. With a little coaxing, it went right on. I maybe spent 20 minutes start to finish and was back mowing again. My neighbor had changed the belt a few years ago but this time I was able to do it myself.
