Part Information
Ice maker 5988JA1001H includes the ice mold and the control device. The ice maker receives water from the water inlet valve and then holds the water in the ice mold until the water freezes solid. It then automatically ejects the ice and refills to continue the process until the ice storage bin is full.

Safely store any food that could deteriorate while the power is off and unplug the refrigerator when installing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.

Easy to install!
There is only one screw in the top left that needs to be removed, then you can just pull/slide the entire unit forward. This will allow you to disconnect the wire harness and pull out the unit completely. Pay attention to the orientation of the wiring harness as you remove the old one, and install the new in reverse order. Works like a charm! Took about 10min to install.

A Tad Deceptive
I thought I was getting an "ice maker". Instead, I received the motor/controller element. I had to remove the existing ice maker...easy. Then had to disassemble it being careful to take numerous photos as I took it apart. Then I used a reverse process to reassemble with the new element. Because there were no instructions (paper or online), I'd have to rate this as pretty difficult.

Water pipe not long enough
Replacement was easy. The tray location in the new ice maker is not in the same place relative to the end of the water fillet pipe. Needed to add 1/2" to the pipe.

LG ice maker repair.
There is 3 screws to remove and one wiring connection to uninstall. After that remove ice tray. Remove ice tray sensor from bottom of ice tray. Remove sensor wire from clips. Remove motor wiring from clips and unplug from on/off switch. Remove motor and replace with new motor and sensor. Reverse previous directions for reinstall. Press on/off button to on position. Hold down reset button on bottom of new motor to test . Should cycle thru.
