Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly 5989JA1005G

The ice-maker unit is kept in place with one screw near the on/off switch. Two slip-on anchors in the top of the freezer compartment secure the unit. The old unit failed due to crud in the ice tray which prevented ice cubes from releasing properly. There is a test switch on the bottom-facing surface at the right side of the ice-maker. The test switch is useful to assess the how well the unit is working, especially as relates to releasing the ice cubes. Cleaning the tray with vinegar and treating it with vegetable oil helped a lot, but for long-term reliability it seemed best to get a new unit. The part number endind in "G" has a 1x10 pin connector; the part ending in "H" has a 2x5 pin connector. When I got the wrong part, Sears was very helpful in exchanging the part for the correct one.

It was easy and hopefully this one will last longer. We got 5 years out of it.

Very easy to install. Used an electric screw driver to remove old and replace new ice maker. It took less than 20 mins to install.

Easy install, fixed water over flow issue that I’d been tryptophan figure out for two years. Came in a large box with no packing but no damage. Not sure why overflow issue wasn’t a recall but $220 is way less than $3k for a new one

This was a 10 min. job, removed front left screw, pulled assembly forward to separate it from the other screws, disconnected power plug. Installed it in reverse order of removal.

Plug and play it made it so simple to remove and just put the new one in

It installed quickly and easily and completely solved our water overflow problem. After 7 years of use I think the ice tray was worn out and would not always release the cubes making it overflow when it filled with water. Now it all works great again.

Very easy to install. The shipping department, however, needs to more carefully pack these items. The part was floating around in the box, and the tape on the box had come loose, leaving the box flaps open. It is a wonder the part did not fall out.
