Pretty painless replacement process
I cracked the old cooktop glass and ordered this replacement. While the instructions were too vague regarding a few points, we quickly figured out how to install the new glass top. We had to separate the ductwork for the vent and put a block under the counter to prevent the cooktop unit from falling to the ground while we cleaned up the rim of counter where the glass sits. The other point of confusion was that the original installation instructions imply there is a gasket between the cooking unit and the glasstop, but we saw not evidence that such a gasked ever existed. No new gasket came with the top, so we installed it with the glass resting directly on the counter. Time will tell if that was in error. Or perhaps someone from Sears will weigh in. The process took about 30 minutes, required two people, and was an intermediate task, as predicted in the instructions online. I'm really happy to have a functional cooktop again!
