Common replacement parts for Dirt Devil canister vacuums

  • Motor air filter. The motor air filter is a sponge that removes dirt and dust from the circulation cooling air that moves from the dirt collection chamber to the suction motor compartment. Because this type of filter usually can't be cleaned, it must be replaced when it's dirty.
  • Exhaust filter. The exhaust filter traps particles exhaust air from the dirt collection chamber.
  • Brush roll. The brush roll is a cylinder covered with rows of bristles. As the brush roll spins, the bristles lift dirt from the carpet fibers.
  • Wand. The wand is a stiff suction tube that attaches to the cleaning head at one end and the vacuum hose at the other end. The wand transfers dirt from the cleaning head to the vacuum hose. The wand has a handle at the end that enables the user to maneuver the cleaning head.

Replacing the exhaust filter in your Dirt Devil canister vacuum cleaner

  • Pull out and up on the exhaust filter cover and remove the cover from the canister.
  • Pull the exhaust filter up and out from the rear of the canister.
  • Install the new exhaust filter cartridge with the foam seal facing towards the canister.
  • Replace the exhaust filter cover by placing the two tabs on the cover into the slots on the canister and then rotating the cover into place until it snaps closed.
