Difficult Installation Redux

I was glad to be able to order this part, even though another's online review of replacing it looked grim. Long story short, I got it done by compressing the new part's centermost tensioning tang against the main body of the part with a vise grip pliers, then locating one nib end into place, then the other. You really do need the latch holding the canopy in place, since an electrical connection to the hose is also made at the latch point--as I'm sure you know. Hope this helps someone. Sorry did not take photos, figured it out as it went--slowly.

Can't install part; is it for a different model?

This does not seem to be the correct part for this model vacuum (Elite Crossover 125.21814610), despite it being the part selected f by the Sears Parts Direct portal for my purchase based on my model number. I cannot snap it into place, maybe because a tab on the hood is blocked by a ladder-like spacer inside the hood.

Latch won't snap into hood; no room thanks to tab vs ladder-like spacer?

Terrible design

The plastic is too rigid. The latch cannot be forced onto the vacuum without breaking the nibs. Therefore, the latch is still not on the vacuum. I would not waste time purchasing.
