Easy to install

The anodes were easy to install once I got the old anodes out, the new anode for the hot water outlet has a longer nipple which makes it easer to install. The original anodes were in my opinion over torqued and I had to use a cheater bar extension to brake them loose.

Not exact replacement.

Since I have a Kenmore water heater I purchased this as the OEM replacement. I am sure this will work, but due to this anode being about 6 inches shorter than the original, the surface area of this is about 20% less than the original I was replacing. Makes me think I could have purchased a less expensive one on line since this turned out not to be an exact replacement.

To be 3rd Anode rod for our Kenmore Water Heater

I ordered this one for installation in 2027. I ordered and installed the 2nd one in 2017, and I expect it to last until 2027 (the first rod lasted 2006 to 2017).

Fairly Easy to Install with the Proper Tools

I needed an Impact Wrench to remove the original Anode Rod. The new Anode Rod requires some Teflon Pipe Dope on the threads, and a Breaker Bar with 1-1/16" Hex Socket to install it.

Good product, high price, horrible website.

Yes, you DO want to INSPECT these every year, two years minimum and you will likely need to replace it between 5 to 10 years depending on your environment. I was inspecting mine every two to three and then this last year it went from OK to YIKES - see photo. Sears gets only 3 stars because the website was horrible. I had entered all of my heater information and "blindly" accepted the anode rod the web-site presented me. Unfortunately it was for the 40 gallon tank and I have the 50 gallon - a difference of 12" in the rod length. I hope that that only means this one will need to be replaced sooner and not that the lower end of my tank will corrode. If it is your first time replacing the rod be sure to have a 27mm 1/2" drive socket AND an Impact Drill with a socket attachment to fit. These anode rods are tight from the factory and you will rip your heater off your plumbing if you use a standard wrench where the Impact Drill will break it loose without the stresses of wrench leverage. Also, turn off the heater, turn off the supply valve and have a bucket and hose attached to the heater drain valve to remove a few gallons - or more, before removing the old rod. If it's been more than 5 years since installation or inspection do yourself a favor and order the rod first.

Anode rod doing what it is supposed to do. Time to replace it before this happens to the heater.
