Replacing Diverter Motor and $5 Seal

Our problem began with water coming out of diverter motor assembly. Looking at exploded parts diagram and reading previous comments, it soon became obvious that we needed a new diverter motor assembly and MOST IMPORTANTLY a new rubber grommet seal for the motor shaft. I find it incredible that I had to buy a $165 sump assembly to replace a $5 seal. When I finally got the sump out, I found that the old seal seemed to be glued to the housing. Thus requiring a total sump assembly replacement. Old comments indicated that this seal used to be sold separately. With modern silicon sealants, anyone capable of attacking the removal of the diverter motor assembly should be more than capable of applying silicon adhesive to the outside of the seal and inserting it into the sump housing. This would save many hours of sump removal and replacement. Being a retired engineer, I would hope that future designs would take into account the maintenance of rotating parts assemblies. We love this dishwasher that is 11 years old and that just had its first failure. I hope that these replacement parts will give us another 11 years of additional service. I dislike the modern 8-10 years of expected lifetime. Design rotating parts with stainless steel and seals that are replaceable, not plastic shafts that can score from normal use and tear up seals.

Incorrect hose clamps

Incorrect hose clamps were included with the sump assy thus making it impossible to secure the two hoses between the recirculating pump and sump. As a result, the dishwasher cannot be used.

Kenmore Dishwasher Purchased Part

All went well with my purchase. I thought the cost was reasonable & I received it within a week. The only complaint I have is that I purchased extra narrow & proprietary clamps thinking I needed them for an additional $12. Sears should state that the clamps and additional hardware come with the sump. Thank you K. Wehrle

It does not come with clamps. Original clumps on the dishwasher are one time use. You cannot find replacement in hardware store. Sales rep suggested buying whole hose kit $168. This is ridiculous - it should come with clamps.

Part I needed was no longer available - a seal that probably cost < $10 - had to purchase a $54 assembly to get a a diverter seal. Accessory parts were useless - clamps didn't fit parts that needed to be removed/ replaced for repair. Cost me $105 US to repair - Dishwasher is 6.5 yrs old & plastic interior parts are crumbling
