Troubleshooting tips for Genie screw drive garage door openers

• No power. Make sure that your Genie garage door opener motor unit is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Reset the house circuit breaker for the outlet if the electrical outlet has no power. If the outlet has power, unplug the garage door opener and check the outlet cord for damage. Replace the outlet cord it it's cut or frayed.
• Garage door won't close. Check safety sensor alignment by following the directions in your owner's manual. If you have the sensors aligned but the garage door opener still won't close the door, test the sensor wires by hooking up the sensors using short strands of wire at the motor unit. If the sensors work when aligned and connected with short strands of wire at the motor unit, then you'll need to replace the sensor wires that connect to the safety sensors when the sensors are mounted to the garage door rails. If the sensors don't work when aligned and connected to the motor unit with short strands of wire, then you'll likely need to replace the safety sensors.
• Garage door opener starts on its own. Check for a stuck button on the wall control. Erase all remote device codes and reprogram each remote device.

Common parts that need replacing on your Genie garage door opener

• Batteries. Some garage door openers have a 12-volt back-up battery inside the motor unit. During a power outage, the back-up battery supplies power to the motor unit so the door can open and close. Remote devices also have batteries that need replacing when they wear out.
• Safety sensors. The safety sensors are a pair of photoelectric eyes mounted at the bottom of the garage door travel rails. One eye sends a beam of infrared light and the other eye receives it. If the receiving sensor doesn't detect the beam—either because the sensors are misaligned or because an object is between them— the safety sensors signal the logic board to reverse the direction of the closing door.
• Wall control. The wall control unit for a garage door opener is mounted on the wall of the garage beside the entry into the house. Wires connect the wall control to the logic board on the motor unit. The wall control unit controls the motion of the door, as well as lighting and programming.
