Repair parts commonly used on Hotpoint gas cooktops

  • Power cord. The power cord supplies the cooktop with electrical current for spark ignition.
  • Igniter electrode. The igniter electrode produces an ignition spark on the burner head to light the burner.
  • Spark ignition module. The spark ignition module supplies the igniter electrode with current to produce the ignition spark.
  • Burner switch. The burner switch detects when you turn on the burner valve and sends current to the spark ignition module to light the burner.

Cleaning the burner heads on your Hotpoint gas cooktop

  • Allow the burners and cooktop to cool completely before you start cleaning.
  • Wipe the burner head with a damp cloth. Remove food and residue between the burner head slots using a toothbrush.
  • To remove stubborn residue from burner heads, use a paper clip or sewing needle. A small-gauge wire works also.
  • Make sure that you clean the ignition port so the burner ignites properly.
  • Wipe the burner heads with a damp cloth after cleaning the slots and the ignition ports.
