Replacing the fan switch on a Litex household fan

  • Shut off the house circuit breaker or remove the house circuit fuse to completely disconnect electrical power from the fan and the switch.
  • Wear work gloves to protect your hands during the repair.
  • Remove the fan switch cover mounting screws and pull off the fan switch cover.
  • Disconnect the fan switch wires.
  • Remove the fan switch mounting screws and pull out the fan switch.
  • Connect the wires to the new fan switch and mount the fan switch in the switch housing using the mounting screws.
  • Reinstall the fan switch cover and secure it with its mounting screws.
  • Reset the house circuit breaker or reinstall the house circuit fuse to restore electrical power to the fan.

Checking your Litex household fan power switch for continuity

  • Unplug the fan or shut off the house circuit breaker for the fan to disconnect electrical power.
  • With the fan switch turned on, check for electrical resistance through the power switch leads using your multimeter. Your meter should measure near 0 ohms of resistance through the power switch leads if switch contacts are allowing current to flow to the fan motor when the switch is turned on. Replace the fan switch if your meter measures infinite resistance (no continuity) through the fan power switch.
  • Turn the fan power switch off and check for continuity through the fan switch leads. The meter should measure infinite resistance with the switch turned off. Replace the fan power switch if your meter measures near 0 ohms of resistance through the switch leads with the fan power switch turned off.
