Common Hoover carpet cleaner parts that need to be replaced

  • Carpet brushes. Carpet brushes agitate carpet fibers during the cleaning process to loosen and remove dirt and debris from the carpet.
  • Recovery tank. The recovery tank collects cleaning solution that’s vacuumed up from the carpet during cleaning.
  • Vacuum motor. The vacuum motor rotates the vacuum fan assembly to create suction to pick up cleaning solution from the carpet.
  • Cleaning solution tank. The cleaning solution tank holds the cleaning solution until dispensed onto the carpet.
  • Brush filter. The brush filter traps dirt and debris from solution that's vacuumed up during carpet cleaning.

How to fix your Hoover carpet cleaner when it won't turn on

Lack of power, a bad power cord, or broken wires can prevent your Hoover carpet cleaner from starting.

Make sure the electrical outlet that you’re using for the carpet cleaner works. Try using a different outlet if you suspect that the outlet you’re using is dead. If the carpet cleaner still won’t start, make sure the outlet has power by plugging a lamp or small appliance into the outlet. If the outlet is dead, reset the house circuit breaker for the outlet. If the outlet still won’t work, have an electrician repair the outlet.

If the carpet cleaner won’t turn on and you know the electrical outlet is okay, check the power cord and replace it if damaged.

If the power cord is okay, then an internal wiring failure could be preventing the carpet cleaner from running. Unplug the carpet cleaner and check power switch wiring. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.

Some Hoover carpet cleaners have an overload switch that prevents the carpet cleaner from running if the vacuum motor overheats. Reset the overload switch if your model has one. To see whether your carpet cleaner has an overload switch, check the owner's manual for your model.
