The Craftsman Line Trimmer Recoil Starter Housing (part number 941-031703S) protects the recoil starter mechanism and supports smooth engine starting. It replaces part number 841-031703S.
If your trimmer is difficult to start or makes excessive noise, the recoil starter housing may be worn or damaged. Replacing the housing can restore proper protection to internal components and improve starting performance.

Installation Account for Housing
The main bolt holding the housing to the engine stripped out. I had to cut off the old housing to get a vice grip onto the bolt to remove it. The kit did not have this same bolt, but a shorter one with no shoulder. Once off, it looks like the starter housing was not faulty at all, but the plastic, spring loaded tabs on the flywheel/fan are not properly tensioned. I could not find a photo or drawing, showing how these are to be adjusted. Any help with getting me information on how to set these up, would be greatly appreciated.

Wrong Part
The parts diagram is not available online so I called customer support and gave them the model number at the description of the part. The part i received looked very similar but did not fit. I wound up having to disassemble the housing to swap the one part that was needed for my housing.
