5. Hot surface igniter. The hot surface igniter is a small ceramic ignition device that lights the burner flame when the furnace turns on.

How to fix an ICP furnace that won't start

1. Check for electrical power. Check the house circuit breaker for the furnace to make sure it’s turned on. Reset the circuit breaker if it’s tripped.
   
   Gas furnaces often have a cut-out switch that looks like a regular light switch located on or beside the furnace that shuts off electrical power to the furnace. Make sure that this cut-out switch is turned on.
2. Check the thermostat. Make sure you have the thermostat set correctly. Adjust thermostat settings if necessary. If the thermostat doesn't have power, check its wiring and reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires. Replace the thermostat if it isn't working.
3. Examine the electronic control board. Disconnect electrical power to the furnace and check the electronic control board wiring connections. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires. Check for burn marks on the circuit board and replace the electronic control board if you see burnt spots or melted wires.
4. Check the pilot light. Light the pilot if you don't see a pilot flame. Follow the instructions in your owner's manual for lighting the pilot.
