Additional Information

MTD blade drive belt part number 490-501-M021 replaces part number 954-04077A. The belt turns the deck pulley to spin the mower blades. This belt maintains reliable blade rotation for consistent grass cutting performance.

If your lawn tractor is cutting unevenly, making unusual noises, or the blades stop spinning altogether, a worn or broken blade drive belt could be the cause. Replacing the belt restores smooth blade engagement and cutting ability.

Before replacing the belt, shut off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. Wear work gloves to protect your hands from sharp components. Use the proper wrench or socket set to access the deck and follow your model?s service manual for routing and tensioning the new belt correctly.

Regular inspection and timely replacement of the blade drive belt help prevent mower downtime and ensure a clean, even cut throughout the season.

The deck belt was easy to install
June 05, 2018|Man2, Kansas

It was easy to install the deck belt, after removal of the mower deck from the unit. Always follow directions in the manual, if thats not possible, there's alway DIY on internet.

Drive belt on garden tractor 247.270480

There is no help to be found on how to get the upper pulley down so you can install belt. You could un-bolt the motor I suppose, but I had to bend the retaining shields to get old belt off and new belt on. Mine had the electric PTO and all the help I found was non-electric PTO. Then the idler at mid-frame, which is heavily spring loaded has a guard/retainer on it that is really inaccessible. I had to snake a wrench into the frame and loosen the bolt with a ratchet to gain clearance for installation over the idler. The video I did find, for non-electric PTO, said 45 minutes. It was more like 2 hours.
