Installation instructions on identification of contacts would have been helpful. The contact identification info was embossed on the switch but easy to miss.

Dryer door switch -- easy to replace
The door switch on our elderly Kenmore dryer failed. Some study revealed that the one-piece top of the dryer could be detached by simply removing three screws on the console back plate, lifting the back an inch or two, and sliding the entire top forward to disengage two clips at the front. The front of the top could then be lifted and held in place by a handy cardboard box while the old switch was removed. Detaching the switch plug from its cable receptacle was a challenge, but after I finally got it loose the new switch could be plugged in and mounted without difficulty. All this should be a 20 minute job, I believe. The replacement switch cost about $20, and I'm sure a service call would cost five times as much.

Wrong Parts
I went to Sears Parts Direct, entered the Dryer Part Number and ordered a Dryer Door Switch Kit. When it arrived it looked completely different from the old part. I have used Sears Parts successfully in the past. Did not feel it was necessary to pull out the old switch to compare before I ordered.

Not as Easy to Repair as Told
I participated in an online chat to determine the nature of the problem with our Kenmore H4 dryer. I was told it needed two parts, thermal fuse and door switch, and that we could replace the parts ourselves. Even watching videos replacing the thermal fuse, we could not locate it on our dryer so we had to call a repairman who completed the task in 15 minutes! The dryer door switch was not necessary but was the most expensive part. Fortunately I am able to return it with no shipping charge. We like to try to do our own repairs if they reasonable; this was not!

Not too bad after I got the right part
Web site sucks. I put in model number and navigated to the part (dryer door switch) and it was for the wrong model. I found out after taking the dryer apart. After I took the dryer apart and got the original part number, I was able to order the correct part. There was a problem pulling apart the electrical connector. I had to try several youtube videos for the right method and even then it was very difficult. Also I had to rely on the youtube videos to get the back panel loose. Nothing on the Sears site or info with the part was helpful. I've been working with tools and machines all my life, so I'm not exactly a newbie at these kinds of things. So the first time I took the dryer apart it took a long time to get the back panel and electrical connector apart - including a couple of hours on youtube. The second time it was pretty quick, and the 2nd part was identical to the original.
