Part Works Perfectly - Easy Fix
The part worked perfectly, although the plastic wrapper/bag it came in looked like it had been rattling around in the back of a dirty truck for a long time. That was very odd, but again, the part was fine, so all is well. The lid switch itself was very easy to install, but getting the cabinet lined back up properly was a bit of a bear in the tight space my husband was working in - that part took longer than replacing the lid switch.

Replacing washing machine lid-switch
We were hesitant to try to replace the washing machine lid-switch ourselves, until we saw the DIY video on the Sears site. That gave us the courage to order the part and give it a try. We were going to have our son try to install it for us, so we set out to pull the washer out from the wall and take the top off so he could get at it, as shown in the video. Next thing we knew, my wife and I - both in our 70's - had replaced it by ourselves, and it works perfectly.

Moderate skills needed
The original switch disintegrated and an OEM replacement was a must. As long as you follow the steps to open the chassis and save/don't destroy the screws and fasteners, this should be easy. Since the washer is unusable with a failed switch, a temporary bypass may be needed (but only temporary, since a bypass is unsafe). Putting the chassis back in place is the hardest if access is limited - just need patience.
