Valve body cover 7171161 attaches over the valve body to cover the rotor and disc and seal the top of the valve body.
Disconnect electrical power and turn off the water supply to the water softener before replacing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.

Valve body
I purchased my softener in 2017. It came with a Manuel, including a parts section with part numbers. My valve body cracked so I ordered a new one based on the p/n from the Manuel. The new part was a valve body, but not for my unit. Turns out the Manuel was for a different model softener. So, Sears error for packing the wrong Manuel and my error for not verifying physical differences in part configuration before ordering it!

Fixed the leak
Suggestion, get new screws. If the upper valve body was leaking the screws should be rusty and may snap if reused. This valve body is the correct part for the Sears and Whirlpool large valve body and works perfectly.
