Part didn't work

The part was exactly like the one we were replacing, but when we disconnected the old part and connected this one, nothing changed. Diagnostics by repairman said this is what we needed to replace, but it didn't work. Not sure if it was a defective replacement part or there is something else wrong with our 4 year old refrigerator. Repairman said this particular part is known for having to be replaced often, but I expected to get at least some life out of it. Took a month to get the part as well due to backorder.
