I could even do it so can you!

Pretty straight forward to accomplish. Block up on side to access but do not tilt all the way over unless you wish to drain the oil out and change it at the same time! Clean the under mower area where cable comes through of grass build up to access area and look carefully at all the spring retainers location. NOW take a picture of it with your phone camera for your use when reassembling the springs and clip locks. look carefully at which direction the spring hooks through the retaining hole s to assure you can reassemble the same direction as this locks the retainers in place properly. Now unhook the retainer spring(s) and unclip cable end from the drive connection. With the cable loose reach up with a screwdriver to the mower body case and push the cable clip through the mower case housing . Next remove the drive speed control handle from the upper handle by removing the 5 torx head screws from the sandwich mount. Pry open the handle assembly and remove it. Now thread the lower cable up through the cable retainers and remove the entire assembly from the mower! Reverse the process mount the upper handle thread the cable down through the case hole and push the mounting clip firmly into the hole. Get your picture back out and rethread the cable through the case and re-hook the retaining springs in EXACTLY as they were connected before . Now adjust the cable adjuster on the upper lever mount to where the lever handle firms snug with MODERATE Tension applied when about 1/2 pulled and engine not running. This is your beginning point. Verify all springs and screws are back in their proper location and snugged to correct tension before starting. ( check your picture) Start your mower verify operation and them make final adjustment if needed.

Replacement part

The installation was easy, the part was a match and works just as advertised. Keep the existing screws and hardware because the replacement part does not come with them.

The part took about 15 minutes to install. Glad I saved the metal mounting bracket and screws from the old one, as they were not included in the packet.

The original handle broke on my old unit, so I ordered the drive control kit. It was very easy to install and took about 30 minutes.

Fairly easy to install.

The installation video available is misleading in that it shows installation on a front wheel drive mower. I have a rear wheel mower which is entirely different. To be honest I think it is more difficult to install and being able to get the cable through an area with no room to maneuver was tough. Using a piece of wire made into a hook was the only way to reach the cable and pull it down. This needs to be shown in a video.

not easy to install
July 01, 2019|fuzzyme, maine

The CSR said he'd send a link to an installation video: he never did. The one I found online was not for the same mower. After some trial and error, I figured out where everything went, but the access to unhooking the old cable and rehooking the new one to the clutch is not easy. I did learn that the control assembly should not be mounted on the mower handle until after the cable is installed: there is not enough slack in the cable to make installation simple. It would have been so much easier if the red plastic handle was available by itself instead of having to buy the whole assembly (that was the only broken part I needed!).
