Scraper plates wear out over time. Good to have a spare plate to put on when needed. Easy to install with 6 carriage bolts holding it on.

Pretty easy and self-evident installation though exact positioning of the blade is not obvious at first -- a one-page "how-to" with a sketch would have helped.
