Why is my gas grill not hot enough?

Clean, repair or replace the gas grill burner

Regularly check and clean the burner tubes of spider webs and debris. Clean the burner tubes with a bottle brush or stiff wire, such as a straightened coat hanger. Check the gas ports (holes) for spills that could glog them. Clean the burner if necessary. Look for rust or damage on the burner bodies and replace a burner if it's damaged or rusted.

Replace the gas grill pressure regulator

If the pressure regulator isn't working properly, first reset the pressure regulator, following the instructions in your owner's manual. To reset most pressure regulators, shut off the gas supply valve at the tank, disconnect the hose/regulator from the tank, wait 30 seconds and then reconnect the hose/regulator. Slowly open the gas supply valve on the tank. If the regulator still doesn't work properly, replace it.

Perform routine gas grill maintenance

The gas grill needs to be periodically cleaned and adjusted to work well. Clean the flavor bars. Check the burner tubes and replace if damaged. Clean any clogged ports on the burner tubes and the inside of the burner tubes. Check the alignment of the burners and igniters.

Replace the gas grill manifold

The manifold on a gas grill has the burner control valves and the connecting gas tubing. If the manifold fails, burners won't heat sufficiently or won't light at all. If a valve is stuck and not working, replace the valve. If the individual valve isn't available as a separate replacement part, replace the entire manifold.

Adjust and align gas grill components

Remove the grates and the flavor bars. Check the alignment of the burners. Make sure that all fasteners are in place. Check the igniter electrode. The tip of the igniter should be within 1/8- to 1/4-inch of the gas burner. Adjust the igniter if necessary.
