Troubleshooting your Harris welder when it won't power up

  • Check the circuit breaker for the power supply outlet that you're using for the welder. Reset the breaker if it's tripped.
  • If the welder still won't power up, unplug the power cord and check the power cord for damage. Replace the power cord if it's damaged.
  • Check the power cord wiring connections to the welder. Reconnect any loose power cord wires.
  • Check for continuity through the power switch using a multimeter. Replace the power switch if the meter measures infinite resistance through the power switch with the switch in the on position.

Safety guidelines to follow when using your Harris welder

  • Read and follow all instructions and safety guidelines in the owner's manual for your welder.
  • Don't let bare skin or wet clothing come between the electrode and a work clamp, work piece or metal work table.
  • Wear dry, hole-free clothing, gloves and shoes to protect and insulate your body while welding. Wear proper protective equipment while welding.
  • Make sure to insulate yourself from ground contact by using dry insulation when welding in damp locations, on metal floors or when sitting down or lying down where large areas of your body could be in contact with possible grounds.
  • Maintain the electrode holder, work clamps, welding cable and welding machine in good, safe operating conditions at all times.
