How to troubleshoot your Hoover lawn vacuum when the engine won't start

  • Check the spark plug wire. Reconnect the spark plug wire if it's loose or disconnected.
  • Check the safety switch. Tighten the hose adapter on the vacuum fan so the safety switch is engaged if the hose adapter is loose.
  • Open the fuel shut-off valve if it's closed.
  • Check the fuel. Replace stale fuel with fresh gas. Use fuel stabilizer to keep gasoline fresh between uses.
  • Check the spark plug. Replace the spark plug if it's fouled or damaged.

How to unclog your Hoover lawn vacuum fan

  • Shut off the tractor engine and set the parking brake.
  • Shut off the vacuum engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.
  • Release the cart catch and lift the cart up.
  • Empty the cart if it's full.
  • Remove the hose and clear any hose clogs.
  • Remove the discharge elbow and remove any clogs.
  • Reassemble the lawn vacuum.
