Way Over Priced!

Since the part came with no instructions or any suggestions on where to obtain installation help, and no installation help on this repair process was available online at Sears, it took longer to research the repair process online than to do the actual repair. For the price paid, it should have come with a little repair man in the package to to the job.

There are no instructions accompanying this part. There is nothing in the owner/users manual that tells you how to dismantle the Ice/water dispenser. The lower portion of the dispenser where water can collect was attached with regular steel screws--the type that can rust. I got one out with a screwdriver, but the other required grinding the head off as there was no slot left to allow the point of the screwdriver to obtain a grip. I was able to finally figure out how to remove the outer plate, disconnect the electrical connectors, and unscrew the actuator. The actuator was pretty easy to take out since it was broken in two. Reinstalling was a different matter. I finally discovered that I had to remove the water hose in order to remove the plastic part that the actuator attaches to. It was pretty easy to attach the new actuator. However, when it came to getting that water hose back into the dispenser hole, my two grandsons learned some more colorful language placing me in the doghouse with their mother. I went to my local hardware store, and found some stainless steel screws to replace the rusted ones, and the rest of the project went off without a hitch. I have lived in this community for many years. I have bought most of my appliances from Sears. I have usually been able to replace parts, and the parts man had always been familiar with how to repair things that can go wrong with Sear's products. He would also warn me of situations where I might get into trouble making my own repairs. Sears is leaving my home town. The independent repair facilities complain that they have difficulty getting Sears replacement parts, and are hesitant to take on the repair of Sears products. I liked Sears products--until now. Why would you instruct reviewers to not mention the specific price you paid for the product? Is it because the price of the parts that were once quite reasonable, are now outrageously expensive? Is it because you charge three times what it actually cost for shipping? Why not go back to becoming the service-oriented company you once were?
