Part Information

This mulch kit (part number 24154) is for lawn tractors.

Mulch kit 24154 changes the tractor from bagging mode to mulching mode, to finely shred the grass clippings and drop them to the ground. Mulching reduces the need for extra nitrogen fertilizer by returning nutrients to the soil. The kit may include multiple parts; refer to your parts diagram for a complete list of parts included.

We have had several

Our ground is very rocky, they even pop up where we didn't see them. The mulch cover lasts about 1 year, then we have to replace. So given the circumstances it performs well.

Good product - requires physical effort to install

The blades are easy to install. The cover requires a significant effort. The front and rear hooks are attached to the cover with short, thick rubber pieces that have to be stretched to hook the cover to the mower. After installing the rear bolt assembly, the rear hook fits over it easily. Then the rear rubber piece must be stretched to hook the top slot to the mower. Then the front rubber piece mist be stretched to attach the front hook to the mower deck. Considerable effort is required to stretch these rubber pieces.

Mulch kit

I warned rep that the blades wouldn’t fit. He said that they would. I didn’t need the blades, just the mulch plastic side cover. Blades don’t fit!! So I paid $89 for a piece of plastic. Very annoyed!

Spare Straps & Hardware Needed

Don't expect the rubber hold-down straps to survive more than a year, if that long. The rubber will break down just like longer hold-down straps that you may purchase at a hardware store. Unfortunately, these are a custom size and not locally available. KEEP SPARES ON HAND.

The attachment bolt/sleeve for the rear hold-down strap to hook on will not hold up either. Vibration and the sideways heavy pulling by the strap on the unsupported end of the long bolt will break it off in time. When this happens, count on loosing bolt, sleeve, washers, & lock nut. KEEP SPARES ON HAND.

The front attachment strap is supposed to hook through an existing hole in the deck. The problem is that threading this hole with the spring hook on the strap is nearly impossible as the weldment bracket for the right-front deck-wheel gets in the way.
