[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This review is more as a PSA and not a critique of Frigidaire. You need to understand the difference between a Water Filter and Water Filter Bypass. Both look exactly the same, in face the bypass uses the same body as the filter to fit into the fridge, but there is NO FILTER CARBON inside the bypass!! THIS IS NOT A FILTER.
This means that if you don't have some other kind of filter system, for example a whole house filter or kitchen water filtration, this means the bypass will run basically pure tap water into your fridge, which means your ice and your water will be tap water.
The reason bypasses exist is because of the gaining popularity of whole house filtration systems, in fact builders of new homes often offer this, either adding it into the price of your home or a third party finance options, etc. Point is, the water running through the house is already filtered, sometimes twice depending on the system and filtering again inside the fridge is redundant, and replaceing filters becomes pointless. Hence the bypass was invented to allow fridge water/ice systems to keep working without wasting a filter.
So if you DON'T have a whole house filtration or kitchen water filtration system like that, then you shouldnt replace your filter with this part, this is not a filter and thus your water will change from pure to "tasting bad" or off. You need actual water filters.
Hope this helps clear the confusion.
