Part Information
Special details: If the timer advances in the timed dry cycle but not the automatic moisture sensing cycle, unplug the dryer and check continuity through the resistor using a multimeter. Replace the resistor (part number 279872) if you measure infinite resistance. If the timer still doesn't advance in the moisture sensing cycle after replacing the resistor, replace the timer using kit 696876 (timer isn't sold separately).
This timer and resistor kit (part number 696876) is for dryers.
Timer and resistor kit 696876 includes the dryer timer that controls the electrical components and the duration of the dryer cycles and the resistor that regulates current flow through the timer motor.
Unplug the dryer before installing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.

Reviews
Easy to install
The existing timer was working fine for everything except it was not turning off when completing a drying cycle. It was a shame I had to replace the entire switch but it did the trick. It was an easy fix.

Hard to install - No instructions sent
Timer install was easy. Resister install was difficult. Found solution on internet from another unhappy customer. Auto dry shut-off continues to run without stopping. Timed dry now works correctly.

Saved us a bunch of money
My husband is pretty handy with DIY stuff, so I ordered the part after getting an estimate from an appliance repairman. It took my husband just under an hour to switch out the part. He found it helpful that another reviewer suggested taking pictures before removing the old part. The only question mark in the whole process was that there was a Resistor Kit included with the Timer, but our 24 year old Kenmore did not have a resistor on it, and the instructions did not mention what to do with the resistor, so he left it off. All in all, being able to do the repair ourselves saved time and money, the repair service estimate was high and the wait time was significant. We are very pleased, not to mention relieved that the part for this old machine was still available!

Replace the resistor, not the timer.
It was too bad that the resistor wasn't sold separately. I installed the expensive timer and it did nothing to help the situation of each drying cycle not turning itself off when finished. As it turned out all I needed was to switch out the little, cheap resistor to solve the problem.

Easy to install
although there were no instructions on how to replace the Resistor (which was very different from the original), the whole kit was easy to install and took about 15 mins. It did, however, take 2 months to receive.

Tricky Time resistor issue
The price was good but I didn't figure out until days and hours of research later that the little orange wire, time resistor, was a replacement for the former time resistor in my Kenmore brown head dryer that looked nothing like this new one. Turns out this is the factory replacement at any store and they no longer supply the old resistor. Because it looked so different and there were no directions or videos I returned the product after replacing only the timer and finding my dryer still wouldn't turn off when the cycle ended. Turns out my dryer wasn't stopping not only because I needed a new timer, but a new resistor. If you have a black two nob time resistor that needs to be replaced, take the wires from that and attach them, one on each side, to the orange wired time resistor supplied here. Then tuck it under/in to replace the back panel of dryer without pinching wires. You may only need to replace the resistor and not the timer, which is much cheaper. This would have been at most a 30 minute fix going slow, but not knowing what to do this took over a week and a lot of research and dead ends.

Worked our well
The wires were confusing on my dryer, there were several wires to hook up and you have to get them to the correct location. I double checked my connections several times. Found a couple mistakes as I was doing it, but finally got it correct. My main tip is to take a picture before you take out the part and do several angles and make sure the shots are well lit. I had an orange and red wire that looked very similar when the light wasn't very good.
