This 5,500-watt heating element for a Rheem electric water heater raises the temperature of the water to the degree selected with the thermostat. A larger water heater contains 2 of these elements.

Before beginning to replace the heating element, shut off electricity to the water heater and drain the tank until the water level is below the old element.

If your water heater has 2 elements, replacing both of them at the same time is advised.
