No Nut Necessary
The plate these nuts secure on the mower deck shroud bent and broke twice. My old Cub Cadet mower did not have this plate, so I thought "What the hey! Maybe I can just get along without it." So I removed the broken plate and tightened the nuts onto the bolts in it, so they wouldn't get lost. I then proceeded to mow about an acre of my yard, which is rough pasture with a lot of holes, mounds, chunks of wood and rocks hidden in tall grass, without incident. I think the plate is to direct the flow of clippings out the exit and to protect the blades to some extent. This is great for smooth lawns, but Sears needs to design and market a mower specifically for rough conditions.
