This drive pulley for a residential washer is one of the wheels around which the belt that operates the wash plate and spins the wash basket turns.
The pulley can be used as a replacement part in some models of Kenmore and Whirlpool Calypso top-loading washers.
If the pulley stops turning or becomes damaged, It's a good idea to replace the complete drive pulley assembly (part number 8055089) rather than just the pulley itself.
