Kenmore inline water filter (part number 3844609) has NSF certifications 42 and 53; it reduces lead, cysts and chlorine taste and odor.
Inline water filter 3844609 is for refrigerators without a built-in water filter. The filter quickly connects directly to your refrigerator's water supply line.
The filter contains activated carbon, a black powder. After installing the filter, flush 5 gallons of water through to allow fine, harmless particles to purge from the filter, until you no longer see the particles in the filtered water (approximately 10 minutes).

Arrived and installed the exact date we specified
I pulled out the fridge from the wall to influence my hubby to help me to install it. I located our red fridge filter bucket and labeled the cartridge with the date and the water flow direction. My hubby, who reads no directions, accidentally turned the water ON for a second, then quickly switched it back to empty INTO the bucket. In no time we filled the bucket to clear charcoal and I collected the water from the front water spigot until it ran clear. Guided the fridge back to its position and in minutes enjoyed the fresh, clean water I'm accumstomed to. Ciao!

Only the Filter
In the past I received this filter with all the installation parts for $30 less. I received this package with filter and two end clips and that's it for a higher cost. Additionally, it just so happened that the top adapter clip the filter attaches to broke and I needed to replace it. Luckily I saved my previous purchased parts and was able to replace it without waiting down time. The filter works great and is a very good purchase but has become over priced.
