An easy fix!
Since I really needed a new caster wheel only, the best way I found to install the wheel was to pry open the two side bars of the round piece that held the old wheel. Then, using the same method with the new coaster wheel, it was easy to then install that wheel, fitting one side of the shaft (holding the wheel) into the side bar of the old round piece , and then sliding the other side of the shaft into the other side bar. In the end I am left with the new round piece that held the new wheel. The vacuum works like a charm now--very maneuverable!
