The nF error code on a Samsung front-load washing machine means that the washer isn't filling with water. There are many different reasons why your appliance may produce this washer error code. Oftentimes, the repair solution is simple. It may be as easy as opening the water supply faucets behind the washer or checking to see if the water supply lines and hoses have frozen during the winter. Other issues like clogs caused by debris and loose wires are also easy to diagnose if you know where to look. Learn more about how to diagnose the cause of your error code in this guide.

Common Causes of Samsung Water-Fill Issues

Diagnosing a problem with your Samsung washing machine is the first step to determining whether you can fix it yourself or if you need to call a washing machine repair service. There are many common reasons that a Samsung washer would not fill properly with water during the wash cycle.

Start by troubleshooting these most obvious causes, keeping in mind that there might be other undetectable issues. If you’re having any trouble determining the issue, schedule an appointment for diagnostics or repairs.

Water supply and clogged valves

Water supply issues can be caused by the home’s water source, changes in water pressure, and blockages in the valves and hoses.

First, check whether water flows through the fill hoses. Unplug the washer and shut off the water supply faucets. Then, remove the ends of the water hoses from the back panel of the washer, leaving the other ends of the fill hoses connected to the supply faucets. Hold the loose ends of the fill hoses over a bucket and briefly open the water supply faucets to check the water flow from the end of the hose.

In some instances, the home’s water pressure itself might be low and unable to produce enough water. The opposite would be that it is too strong, causing an overfill. Check the water pressure to the valve to troubleshoot if the inlet is receiving the minimum amount, 20 psi.

If water doesn't flow through a hose, check the fill hose for a clog or a kink. Disconnect the fill hose from the supply faucet and pour water through the hose. If the hose is clear, then there is a problem with the water supply going to the faucet. It’s worth having a plumber help troubleshoot and fix this issue.

If water flows through the supply hoses, check the inlet screens on the water inlet valves for clogs. This valve allows water to flow into the washer. If it’s defective, the front-loader might fill slowly, or not at all.

Once again, water pressure in the home may be to blame, but you should also check for clogged screens. Screens can’t be cleaned without risking debris getting into the valve that can lead to leaks and even floods, but a water inlet valve connector is an easy piece to replace.

Wire connections and solenoid coils

If water flows through the inlet hoses and the water inlet screens aren't clogged, the problem is likely inside the washer.

First, check the wire harness connections on the water inlet valves. With the washer still unplugged, remove the top panel. Check the wire harness connections between the water inlet valves and the electronic control board. Reconnect any loose wires or replace the wire harness if it is damaged.

If the wire connections are okay, use a multimeter to check the resistance of each solenoid coil on the water inlet valves. With the washer still unplugged and the top panel removed, pull the wires off one of the water inlet valve solenoid coils.

Set the multimeter to measure resistance, and touch one meter probe to each of the two leads on the coil. The meter should measure around 1,000 ohms of resistance through the coil if it's good. If any coil measures infinite resistance, replace the water inlet valve.

Other possible problems

If all the solenoid coils appear to be functioning as expected, and you find no other problems when troubleshooting the washing machine water pressure or condition of the valves, there may be issues with the electronics.

Visually check the wire between the electronic control panel and the water valves. The wire itself might be damaged or the electronic control board could be defective. If you suspect an electronics issue, it’s best to have a service technician step in to help with diagnostics. They will be able to check the live voltage at the control board and water valves to determine the exact cause of the nF error code. They can also determine if replacing these parts is feasible, and help you weigh the pros and cons of making expensive repairs on an older washing machine.
