The rubber door boot seal is a flexible gasket between the door and the drum of the washer that prevents leaks. If the washing machine appears to leak from under the front panel, check the rubber door boot seal for a hole or rip. If you find that the washer door boot is damaged, replace it using the step-by-step procedure shown in this video.

This repair procedure works for many common Frigidaire and Electrolux front-load washers.

You can use the same basic repair procedure for some Kenmore 417-Series front-load washers.

To replace the door boot (also called a bellows), follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power before beginning this repair.

  2. Pull back the bottom of the door boot and remove the outer spring clamp using needle-nosed pliers.

  3. Cut the cable tie and remove the ART (Advanced Rinse Technology) hose from the door boot.

  4. Remove the LED light assembly from the door boot.

  5. Reach underneath the door boot and remove the inner spring clamp. Note: For demonstration purposes, the video shows some processes on the washer tub with it removed from the washer for illustration purposes. You can remove the door boot with the front panel in place. Installing the new door boot is much easier if you remove the front washer panel even though you can complete the installation with the front panel in place.

  6. Pull the door boot out of the washer.

  7. Insert the slot at the top of the new door boot into the slot at the top of the washer tub opening’s lip to properly align the new door boot. While holding the door boot with one hand, place your other hand inside the door boot and force the groove of the door boot over the lip of the tub with your thumb. Move your way around the opening of the tub and force the remaining parts of the door boot into the tub lip with your thumb to fully seat the door boot inside the tub opening’s lip groove.

  8. Fold the door boot into the tub to make it easier to install the inner spring clamp. Starting at the top, slide the spring clamp into place and clamp it down. Begin to feed the spring clamp into place around the tub about 1/3 of the way. Secure the spring clamp down with a second retaining clamp. Continue installing the spring clamp until a third retaining clamp is needed to keep it in place. Finish installing the spring clamp and remove all the retaining clamps.

  9. Reinstall the ART hose on the new bellow and secure the hose in place with a new cable tie.

  10. Reinstall the LED light assembly.

  11. Reinstall the outer spring clamp by following the same procedure used to install the inner spring clamp.

Replacing the door boot is a fairly complicated washer repair. If you’re not completely confident that you can replace the door boot yourself, we recommend that you schedule a Sears Technician to install the new door boot.
