Snowblower oil change

Before performing any type of maintenance or service, remove the key from the snow thrower, disconnect the spark plug wire, and ground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting. Follow the maintenance schedule written in the operator's manual.

Change the engine oil after the first 5 hours of operation, and then once a season or every 50 hours thereafter. Changing the engine oil works best when the oil is warm enough to flow well without being hot enough to pose a burn hazard.

  1. Place a suitable oil collection container under the oil drain plug.

  2. Using a wrench to keep the oil drain tube secured to the engine block, remove the oil drain plug with another wrench.

  3. As the oil drains, tip the snow thrower back slightly to completely drain the oil.

  4. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it securely.

  5. Refill the engine with the recommended oil and check the oil level. Refer to the operator's manual for oil information. On this snow thrower, the engine's oil capacity is 37 ounces.

  6. Reinstall the oil filler cap dipstick securely.

Used oil is a hazardous waste product. Dispose of used oil properly; do not discard with household waste. Check with your local authorities for safe disposal and recycling facilities.
