Find out what went wrong with your Daewoo washer when it won’t drain
When the wash cycle ends and the spin cycle should begin, the water should drain completely from your Daewoo washer. If water remains in the tub:
- Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs and confirm your home’s drain system isn’t backed up.
- If the drain path is clear, the drain pump may have failed or the water-level pressure switch might not be sensing water accurately. You should replace a defective switch to restore proper fill and drain functions.
- In Daewoo top-load models, a failed lid switch can stop the washer from advancing to the drain and spin cycle. You may need to replace the lid switch.
- A failed timer or drive motor problem can also keep a top-load washer from draining and spinning.
- On a Daewoo front-load washer, a bad main electronic control board or failed motor control board can prevent the washer from draining and spinning. A clogged drain pump filter can also block draining—unplug the washer, check the filter, and clear any debris.
Leveling matters too. Many washers won’t spin properly if they aren’t level, so include that in your maintenance checks.
Common Daewoo washer replacement parts
- Agitator: Moves clothes inside the spin basket to clean the load. If the top part isn’t ratcheting properly, the agitator dogs are likely worn out. You can replace the agitator dogs to restore performance.
- Water inlet valve assembly: Controls hot and cold water flow into the tub. If your washer won’t fill, replace the water inlet valve.
- Water-level pressure switch: Senses the water level through an air tube attached to the tub. If the washer overfills or doesn’t fill at all, you should replace a defective switch.
- Motor coupler: Connects the motor to the transmission in direct-drive models. If the washer won’t agitate or spin but the motor runs, replace the motor coupler.
- Lid switch: Prevents spinning or motor operation when the lid is open. If the washer doesn’t advance to spin, replacing the lid switch may solve the problem.
