Troubleshooting your Milwaukee router when it won't power up

Check the electrical outlet to make sure it has power. If the electrical outlet is dead, reset the house circuit breaker for the outlet or use a different electrical outlet.

Check the power cord. Replace the power cord if it's frayed or cut.

Unplug the router and check the wiring. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.

Check the power switch. Use a multimeter to measure continuity through the switch. If the meter measures not continuity through the switch with the switch in the on positions, replace the power switch.

Check the motor brushes. The motor won't run if the carbon motor brushes are worn down. Replace the carbon motor brushes if the brushes are worn down past their limit mark.

Common Milwaukee router replacement parts

  • Carbon motor brushes. The carbon motor brushes transfer electric current to the spinning armature in the motor.
  • Bearings. The bearings support the drive shaft inside the motor housing to allow the shaft to spin.
  • Collet. The collet holds the router bit in place.
  • Chip shield. The chip shield attaches to the router to prevent wood chips from hitting the operator.
